Sleep-Safe Anti-Suffocation pillows have been tested by the Head of Research Development in the Physiology Department of a leading UK university, with outstanding results...
“Based on these test results, Sleep-Safe pillows should be the choice for adults in circumstances where breathing ability is compromised by disability, disease state, medication or age.
Sleep-Safe pillows should also be suitable for children over 3 years of age and for young adults, in particular because their lung capacity will not have matured to adult potential.”
Improving patient care
Sleep-Safe Anti-Suffocation pillows can play an important part in improving care and reducing risk, especially where seizures, convulsions and breathing difficulties are present.
Since they were introduced in 1992, Sleep-Safe Anti-Suffocation pillows have become standard equipment in many hospitals and care homes, and they are highly recommended by carers and therapists referred to us from Epilepsy Action, the Disabled Living Foundation and Disabled Living Centres across the UK.
Entirely suitable for domestic and care home use
Barnardo’s has purchased a large quantity for use in community fostering schemes which have been established to cope with care home closures.
This confidence shown by Barnardo’s - a leading UK care provider - confirms that Sleep-Safe Anti-Suffocation pillows are eminently suitable for domiciliary care and intermediate care settings.
To mark their 10th anniversary, Sleep-Safe pillows were redesigned to incorporate new features which improve significantly their anti-suffocation properties. This relaunch met with a strong demand, coinciding with the introduction of the Care Standards Act 2000 which made all institutional care providers subject to the National Minimum Standards laid down by the Department of Health (DoH).
Improving patient safety
A central doctrine of DoH policy is ‘Clinical Governance’, which means constant quality improvement, and risk management is a primary objective.
Patient safety is now enshrined specifically as a core component of service planning and delivery. Risk assessments must be shown to have been undertaken.
Sleep-Safe pillows not only reduce risk, they also provide a visible demonstration to the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate that care is being provided in a setting where risk is managed effectively, and where policies are in place to minimise adverse outcomes.
Our commitment to quality
As part of our commitment to quality, Sleep-Safe pillows have been certified as a Class I Medical Device, which provides for a wide range of controls covering safety and performance. This will give all our customers - individual carers as well as Health and Social Services buyers - the confidence that Sleep-Safe pillows are produced to the highest quality standards.
